TANE MO SHIKAKE MO ARU

One morning, every last bit of magic vanished from the Kingdom of Magia. While people who relied on magic for fire and water are at a loss, only Luka — a traveling magician who never could use magic in the first place — carries on as usual. With his partner Silk the rabbit and Mira, an apprentice from the magic academy, he heads for the castle of Nox, the Demon Lord. TANE MO SHIKAKE MO ARU (“there’s a trick to it after all”) is a classic command-battle RPG.

Battles are command-based. Spend a turn on “Set Up”, and next turn you can pull off a powerful set-up trick such as “Doves from a Hat”. But when an enemy is “watching closely”, it will see through your setup — use Luka’s “Misdirection” to draw its eyes away. The three of them have 17 tricks in all. They learn new ones as they level up, and you mix attacks, healing and set-ups to win.

The journey runs from the town of Porta through the Whispering Woods, the Crystal Cave and the Clock Tower to the Demon Lord’s Castle, with 4 bosses lying in wait. It’s a classic RPG with treasure chests, shops, inns and level-ups, and you can see it through in about 30 minutes to an hour. Your progress is saved automatically, and if your whole party falls you lose nothing — just start again from the inn in town.
